The ITS plays a major role in farmers institution building through formation of Farmers Interest Group (FIG) , promoting various farm operation in group of 15-20 farmers to improve the effectiveness of various services providing to farmers including:
- Enhance technology dissemination
- Reduction in the transaction costs of providing training
- Increase access to resources by reducing the effect of cost
- Enhance their collective purchasing and selling power
- Provide farmers with improved agronomic or market knowledge
- Sell of produce together, as part of an organized farmer group to get better prices.
- Improve farmer livelihoods by increasing individual FIG productivity
A key lever to meeting production demand is aggregation of farmers:
- Access to Finance
- Improved production and processing
- Decreased transaction costs and increased economies of scale
- Access to markets
- Policy advocacy
ITS has got expertise in federating these FIG to Farmers Producer Organization, its registration as a legal entity, facilitating them to develop business plan, its implementation, monitoring, reporting and management.
